Christine Y. L. Luk is Assistant Professor at the History of Science Department at Tsinghua University, Beijing. She holds a doctorate from Arizona State University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hong Kong. Her research interests center on the history, philosophy, sociology, and anthropology of biology and biotechnology in modern and contemporary China. Her scholarly articles have been published in Journal of the History of Biology, East Asian Science, Technology, and Society: An International Journal, Engineering Studies, and History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences. Her first book, A History of Biophysics in Contemporary China, was published by Springer in 2015. Aside from academic writings, Christine has also written policy briefs on space biology with Subodhana Wijeyeratne.

Subodhana Wijeyeratne is Graduate Student in Harvard’s History Department, specializing in the history of science and technology in East Asia. His dissertation, Red Sun Rising, charts the origins and development of Japan’s space program from the 1920s onwards. His broader interests include the impact of technological change on social relations, material life and perceptions of the world. He is a recipient of several scholarships and awards, including a MEXT Scholarship and a Noma-Reischauer Award for his piece “Death Rays to Diesel Engines, Technology Seizure and Collaboration in Occupied Japan, 1945–1952.” Wijeyeratne is also a published author  of fiction. His short story “They Meet in the Wall” won a 2018 Mariner Award, and his first novel, The Slixes, was published in September 2019.
